~Chosen Destiny~ Prologue~

We all have a beginning and a an end. Everyone has a past, a history that's known to them. But not me. Where I come from, when my birthday is, what my age is, no one knows.

When I was young, too young to remember anything, two kind people, John and Jenny Koch, found me, all alone and afraid, in the wilderness.. They took me in, and tried desperately to find my parents. But they never found them. So they took me in, and raised me as one of their own. My name became Robert Koch.

Now, my story begins, with no past, and only the future. My tale begins here, and I shall uncover more then I ever thought I would.

Robert laughed some along with some of his friends at their songs. "Come on Robert, sing something." One of his friends cheered.

"Ah, I only do songs down by Linkin Park and Emine." Robert laughed.

"Yeah, that's what I meant. Sing one of them."

"Which one?"

"Crawling, by Linkin Park."

Robert grinned widely. "As you wish." He began to tap his foot to find the bear of the song. He then began to dance a bit as he sang.

"Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real.

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming/confusing
This lack of self-control I fear is never ending
Controlling/I can't seem

To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(without a sense of confidence and I'm convinced that there's just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure.

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

Discomfort, endlessly has pulled its self upon me
Distracting/reacting
Against my own will I stand beside my own reflecetion
It's haunting/how I can't seem

To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(without a sense of confidence and I'm convinced that there is just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming/confusing what is real
This lack of self-control I fear is never ending
Controlling/ confusing what is real..."

Slowly, Robert ended the song, and smirked. Even though he was only 14 at the youngest, he was one of the best singers around. He could outsing the entire senior choir class, and they had taken state championships ten years in a row.

Suddenly, a car pulled up, and honked it's horn. Robert turned, and saw it was his mother. He then turned back to his friends. "Hey bros, I got to go. Mom's here." He turned, and began to walk towards the car.

"Yo, see ya Robert. Hey, let's get together tomorrow at town square, and sing. What do you say?"

"Depends on what mom says, Joe. See you later." Robert climbed into the car, and it pulled away.

"Well, hun, how was your day?"

"It was ok. Was asked to sing at this upcoming dance. Would it be ok if I did?"

"Sure, sweetheart. That would be great." His mother exclaimed.

"And my friends want me to come to the Town Square with them tomorrow to sing. Can I do that too?"

"As long as you take Mara with you." Mara was Robert's step sister. She was only eight, six year younger then he.

"Ok mom, I'll take her with."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day, Roberts father dropped Mara, and him off right outside town square. "Now Robert, I`ll be back at six o'clock to pick you up, got that?"

"Yes father, see you later." Robert turned, picked his sister up into a piggy-back-ride and walked into Town Square. His friends saw him, and yelled out to him. "Yo! Robert, over here!"

Robert turned, saw his friends, and walked over to them. "Hey, what's up?"

"You brought your sister with?" Ben asked.

"Mom made me. Besides, she is cool too. Want to sing with us Mara?" He asked, looking over his should as best he could at her.

She shook her head. "No, I want to hear you sing. You are better."

Robert smiled, and sat her down on the bench next to them. He then leapt up onto the bench. "Which song?" He asked.

"Pushing Me Away. We already have the other stuff set up for you to sing to." Nick said, pressing play on a stereo he had brought with.

Robert smiled, and pulled out his CD player. "You all know I don't leave home without it. On my mark begin the song." He put the headphones on, and turned it up as loud as it would go. He then gave the signal to Nick, and they began playing the same song at the same time.

"I've lied to you
The same way that I always do
This is the last smile
That I'll fake for the sake of being with you

(Everything falls apart
Even the people who never frown
Eventually break down)
The sacrifice of hiding in a lie
(Everything has to end
You'll soon find we're out of time left
To watch it all unwind)
The sacrifice is never knowing

Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away
Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away

I've tried like you
To do everything you wanted too
This is the last time
I'll take the blame for the sake of being with you

(Everything falls apart
Even the people who never frown
Eventually break down)
The sacrifice of hiding in a lie
(Everything has to end
You'll soon find we're out of time left
To watch it all unwind)
The sacrifice is never knowing

Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away
Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away
(We're all out of time
This is how we find how it all unwinds)
The sacrifice of hiding in a lie
(We're all out of time
This is how we find how it all unwinds)
The sacrifice is never knowing
Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away
Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away
Pushes me away"

And so he ended the sound, and took his headphones off to hear the clapping of the many people who had listened. He smiled some, and bowed. His sister stood up, and hugged him just like she always did after he had sung.

But this time Robert lost his balance, and began to fall of the bench into the fountain that was behind it. He let go of his sister so she wouldn't fall with him, but she did not let go of him. They fell down, and Robert wrapped his arms around his sister so that when they landed he would take the full hit and she would not get hurt. But they never reached the ground...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert later woke up, and opened his eyes. But for a moment he wondered if he had, for it was just as dark. He looked about, until his eyes adjusted. He then saw his sister lying on the floor not too far away from him. He crawled over to her, and picked her up. She was sleeping soundly.

He cradled her in his arms and looked around. Something was not right. First off, it was too dark. And send, he had found that they were sitting on cold stone, almost as though they were in a cave.

He then decided to call out. "Hello? Is anyone there?"

Just then, a door, that he had not seen, opened, and light, so bright that it blind Robert. When his eyes adjusted again he saw that it was a hideous black creature that was, at the most, four to five feet tall, and had nasty looking teeth. And, just when he thought this was all the more ugly the creature got, it turned worse when he got near and began to speak. It smelled bad, both it's breath and it body odour. "Shut up you worthless Elf!" It raised it's hand high, and Robert saw a whip in it.

Mara suddenly woke up, and screamed. Robert immediately spun on his knee, facing his back to the creature, and hide Mara in his arm in a desperate attempt to protect her from the whip. The whip came down, and sliced into Roberts back. He let out a cry, but did not move, nor did his mind think of anything else but protecting his sister.

The whip came back down several more times, as though the creature was trying to make Robert drop his sister. Robert felt blood dripping down his back, and a tear stained his cheek.

The creature raised his whip to hit Robert one last time, but he fell down, instead of slashing Robert. Robert looked down at the creature, and saw that there was an arrow lodged in the back of it's head. Robert shook some, but did not lessen his grip on his sister. He looked over his shoulder, and saw people, men, walking in. They were cloaked in black, and carried bows in their hands. They walked up to him, two of them had their hoods thrown back. They looked exactly the same, dark hair, grey eyes. One of them said something to the other in a language Robert did not understand.

The one that was being spoke to nodded, and turned to Robert. He then began to speak to him in that language. Robert shook his head. "I don't know what you're saying, I only speak English."

"English? You mean the common tongue. And what do you mean you don't understand what I'm saying. All Elflings know Sindarin, it's the first tongue they learn."

"What is an Elfling."

The one elf shook his head, and turned back to the other. They exchanged some words, then one of them went to pick Robert up. But Mara screamed again, hiding her face in Roberts arm.

The Elf then gently took her from Roberts arms, and cradled her as he walked away. The other that looked just like the one who had just walked away with Mara, picked Robert up and followed.

Although he tried to stay awake, Robert almost immediately past out from the blood lose that he had received from his wounds.
