A Maiden of Faith - Chapter 17

Lothmîr came rushing at Elfwine. Her face was buried in her hands and tears were falling in between her fingers. She plowed right into him. Not caring she ran on by, angling around him.

"Lothmîr!" Elfwine caught her by the shoulders, and held her fast. "Stop! What happened?"

"I-" She looked up at him, her face was red, her eyes bloodshot. Then she told him everything... everything.

He listened, surprised that she would do such things. No wonder Eldarion didn't love her. She was not discreet at all! When she had finished, he sucked in a ragged breath. "Well, I guess that's one way to see if he loves you..."

"You!" She burst into tears again. "Why did you have to be so nice? You'll die! Like my mother!"

"Whoa, what was that?" He turned her to look at him as she twisted away. Never had he heard why her mother had passed, just that she had.

"Raiders... They came to our house. She let them come in, they asked for food, she gave it to them." A sob shook her forcefully. "When they were ready to leave, she showed them out..." She shook her head. No, this isn't happening... It's happening again... She could see it as if it had been yesterday. Her childhood was returned to her and she could feel the nervousness, see her mother shaking. Reliving this memory hurt so bad. "They killed her. A barter for my life... Perhaps it would be easier if I had died... I wouldn't be hurting now..."

"Don't say that! It was her love for you that saved you." Her cries shook his soul. "Hush, child. All is well." Consoling her was like talking to a rock. She wouldn't listen, didn't want to. So he just held her. What he wanted to do was go back to the feast and beat his father into the next age.

Eldarion sat in his room, his head bowed. He had spoken with his father, Aragorn had said that the search would have to wait until morning.

Darling did you know that I
I dream about you
Waiting for the look in your eyes
When we meet for the first time

Darling did you know that I
I pray about you
Praying you will hold on
Keep your loving eyes only for me

I am waiting for
Praying for you darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me as I wait for you
I am waiting for
Praying for you darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me as I wait for you
Darling wait
Darling wait

Darling did you know I
Dream about life together
Knowing it will be forever
I'll be yours and you'll be mine

And darling when I say
'Til death do us part
I'll mean it will of my heart
Now and always faithful to you

I am waiting for
Praying for you darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me as I wait for you
I am waiting for
Praying for you darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me as I wait for you
Darling wait
Darling wait

Now I know you
May have made mistakes
But there's forgiveness
And a second chance

So wait for me
Darling wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me

I am waiting for
Praying for you darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me as I wait for you
I am waiting for
Praying for you darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me as I wait for you
Darling wait
Darling wait

Katrina's voice was so strong. She was singing from a darkness that made him shudder at the thought of her being hurt.

I'll wait, love. I dream about you too. And our life together... He smiled at the thought, never would he think to find himself in love with a woman he hardly knew. It was something new and completely unexpected for him. She was in his every thought. Her face so prominent in his mind as he heard her voice. If only she were here right now with him, instead of in a danger he couldn't yet prevent.

Katrina looked at Valeth ahead of her. She had paused, her eyes turned back to Minas Tirith, her Elven sight seeing all.

"You look to me for reasoning. I have none." The woman shook her head and turned back around. Her steps hastened. "Come, we must hurry! Deladan, pick her up!"

Why me? She thought as she was lifted up into the man's arms. The only comfort she had was God, but even then He felt distant to her right then. So she closed her eyes, trying to find sleep but instead her head swam with some memories of her past. Those that brought her comfort and had been a fun experience came first, but slowly they developed into those full of hurt and confusion...

His gaze was so reassuring. He held her so close, protecting her from her hurt. His voice so soft in her mind. How she would always remember that moment with Him when the pain in her heart was so great after the trials she had faced. He was always with her, no matter where she went He was there.-

She was being lowered into water, her father's hands on her left arm her pastor's on her right. God was surrounding her, she was safe in all of their sturdy hands, nothing would happen to her. She was trusting in her father and pastor and in God to ensure her safety. She inhaled under the water on accident, He held her in His arms as she rose from the lake. Her pastor said the final words after she was baptized.-

Laughter filled the park. Little second cousins played on the playground and in the grass. Adults talked inside the rented Library. She was talking to her cousins and played a game of cards with them and their spouses.-

Lights blared and flashed as the concert raged on. The music pounded into her brain, reminding her God's word. He pumped through the amps into everyone's limps. His Word was burnt onto their lips, and into their hearts.-

Realization hurt her as she heard the diagnosis. She had Scoliosis, but it wasn't bad. She had something else that she had never heard of. Something called Schueurmann's Kyphosis, whatever that was... Her mother looked at her 13 year old daughter, and could see the tears swelling in her eyes. The doctor looked at her and said she had two options: surgery or a back-brace. Neither sounded appealing... The brace, that was her choice. "There'll be a neck ring," he said. "Just a really big necklace, right?" her sarcasm was dry. Her doctor only slightly smiled at her... She had no idea what the `necklace' would look like.-

Dimness surrounded her, no light was on, no music sounded. She was alone in her dark apartment. The wind whirled around the building, threatening to tear it apart. Tears made trails on her cheeks. A chair crashed through her window. In her bathroom she shrank into fear. Warmth held her, protected her. She could feel His hands keeping the tornado from ripping her to shreds.-

Katrina opened her eyes sharply, surprised she had remembered some of those things. Things she had promised herself never to let rise to the surface again. And yet she just had. Her mind reeled and she felt like vomiting. This experience would undoubtedly be added to that category of things to forget.

She closed her eyes, trying to shut out the thoughts and focus of God. He would get her threw this storm of uncertainty. He was all she could rely on right now, but He was always with her. And slowly she slipped into a peaceful sleep...
