The Two Towers: Musings

I have renewed my interest in all things Tolkien recently with last year's premiere of FotR and this year's TTT; and as a general rule, will always read the book(s) before I see a movie adaptation (or should I say variation??). I was excited to say the least as I waited rather impatiently to see how our dear hobbits and co. have fared since we last saw them...

I liked the opening semi-battle sequence between Gandalf and the Balrog, great special fx, and woohoo!! the Balrog had wings!!

I have a new appreciation of Gollum than I had when I saw the animated versions... I think the way he is/was portrayed really cast him in a different light, almost as a tortured self-serving character rather than an outright villain -- the "schizophrenic" aspect of his personality enhanced his character in my not so humble opinion...

Loved the action sequences and the character interactions/ developments -- even if there was a lot of deviation from the original text. Then again, I doubt many audience members would want to sit through drawn-out details and backstories...

Here's hoping that RotK will tie all the loose ends up quite nicely.
