Return of the King - What I thought. - After three viewings, some impressions just won't leave me.

We have come to it at last. The great movie of our time. Yes. I said it. Great movie. If anyone reading this recalls my views on The Two Towers - I wasn't so impressed. My review, was entitled 'The Terrible Tragedy' . That stemmed from my dislike of all the changes. I have come about, since the released of the Extended Edition.

Return of the King, as can be expected, had some changes. However, I did not care one bit. The movie blew me away (So much so, that I've watched it three times in four days. I guess I like the movie). If you haven't seen it yet, the next section contains SPOILERS.

What I liked:
Ride of the Rohirrim - This is one of my favourite scenes in the book. To see it on the big screen was a treat. To see it three times was even more of a treat. Theoden's poem is also included ("Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden! Spear shall be shaken, shield shall be broken, a sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now! Ride now! Ride to ruin, and the world's ending! DEATH!" Suffice it to say, I loved it.

Eowyn vs WiKi - Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Again, one of my favourite book scenes. And it was done astoundingly well.

Shelob's Lair - I'm still scared. And I'm not arachnophobic. Very well done. Sam's line, "Let go of him, you filth!" (Or words to that effect) is done incredibly.

Minas Tirith - Wow. Very well made, it was stirring just to see the White City.

Beacon Lighting - This isn't in the book. It doesn't matter, this is one of the best cinematic moments I have ever seen.

Smeagol Flashback - Great choice to open with. Wow. Helps the audience to start to dislike Smeagol.

Mount Doom - Powerfully done. I found myself wishing, along with Sam, that Frodo would just throw it in.

Dagor Morannon - This is done well. Before Aragorn charges, the sound goes dead quiet. Then, he simply says "For Frodo!". He charges. Merry and Pippin sprint after him. I was stirred, deeply.

Battle of the Pelennor Fields - This is a masterpiece. It is done very well, and some of the best dialogue is delivered during this sequence.

Faramir's Suicide Charge - This had tears in my eyes. It is done so well, intercutting with Denethor eating (As if he actively destroying Faramir), and Pippin's song (Really a lament).

Paths of the Dead - Aragorn's ability to rule is shown here. No backing down for this heir of Isildur.

Coronation of Aragorn - Wow. Again, done very well. Stirs the heart, and to hear Aragorn singing Elvish is a treat.

"My Friends, you bow to noone." - This has such power. When all is said and done, the whole of Minas Tirith bows to the hobbits. What an occasion.

Grey Havens - This is a powerful scene, done extremely well. Kudos to PJ for daring to include this.

"Well, I'm back." - Great choice, to end with the same line the book does.

Of course, those are just some of the scenes I liked. I can't list 'em all, it'd take too long. Suffice it to say that there was nothing I didn't like. Nothing. Nothing at all.

After seeing it three times, I have finally come up with a rating. It goes like this: R (Rating) = n(Number of times seen),2 /n . For those who find this confusing, it is like this: The rating is the square of the number of times seen, over the number of times seen. EG (After first viewing) 1 out of 1 stars. After second viewing - 4 out of 2 stars. After third viewing - 9 out of 3 stars. Etc.

Conclusion: I want to see this again, and again, and again.
