Why can't I?

Why can't I
Be somone I'm not
An elf in the forest
A dwarf in the ground
A Man of even a Hobbit
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Slip into another world
Through the pages of a book
Travel to a land far away
Become another person
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Live in the Shire
A garden for a yard
all the things I wanted
In a small community
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Be an elf
Living in Lorien
Under the silver trees
Maybe even by the sea
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Live as a maiden of Rohan
Or a girl of Gondor
Riding horses, sword fights
All the adventures I need
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Live in the ground
With the jewels and Mithril
leaving out the beard
Wandering the Halls of Balin
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Do these things
Because this place
Is beyond my grasp
Though always in my heart
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Become these things
I have the ears of an elf
The height of a hobbit
And at least something from every race
Why can't I?

Why can't I
Is running through my head
"I can" I suddenly realize
I can be all of these cratures
In my own home
Can I?

Can I
Become each of these races
Yes. Where? you ask
I will tell you
Between the pages of a book
I can.

quote by someone i don't know
"I have lived it all because I have read it all." So true so true.
