The Despair of Wormtongue - Where Have All my Daggers Gone?

Where have all my daggers gone?
Long time passing, long time passing;
They've been burned by light, everyone,
They've all been lost in pretty fires,
They've all gone since long time passing.

I am the dog of the Age,
A whelping fiend that's lost its fangs;
Old Man strikes at me with his cane,
But I cling to it all the while.

Where have all my whispers gone?
Long time passing, long time passing;
They've withered like roses, everyone,
They've all been drowned by blasting trumpets,
They've all gone since long time passing.

She has risen from the ashes, my Maiden,
A queen amongst queens;
My wound has lifted from her heart,
My heart has been wounded by her strength.

Where have all my shadows gone?
Long time passing, long time passing;
They've been blunted, every one,
They've all been blinded; left to ashes,
They've all alighted, long time passing.

I am far too proud to know I was damned,
Far too old to remember my time;
But I cling to Old Man, as he spits at me,
A whimper, I weep, but I plot his end.

Where has all my vengeance gone?
Long time passing, long time passing;
They've gone to my rusted dagger,
Hiding under my ragged cloak,
I've one last tongue, my time is passing.
