Rise up - Boromir's parting thoughts

Remorse
what have I done?
Frodo
gone because I almost killed him
after I swore
to protect him, why would I hurt him?
the Ring was stronger than I

Running
I see Merry and Pippin
Orcs
surging towards them,
an ax swings to kill, but my sword is first
I can repay the debt to Frodo by
protecting his kin

Killing
there are more seeming to spring from the ground
Blowing
the horn that will bring me aid
the black shapes flowing from all sides,
there are too many for me to kill alone
but I will continue until I cannot

Shouting
to the stunned halflings, watching my struggle
Run
run! But they only go
a short distance, not far enough

Pain
I start to sink to the ground. Many orcs run past me, east
towards Gondor
the White City, doomed to fall
then a voice is speaking, not harsh
but beautiful

Rise up
man of Gondor
and protect your city

Fighting
each orc killed is one less
for Gondor to defeat
the ground
littered with blood
and hate
this time, I see the bowman striding towards me

Pain
now two arrows springing out
of my chest
black shafts,
so small yet determined to pull me to the ground
on my knees, eye level with two hobbits
the voice again

Rise up
member of the Fellowship
and fight for the lives of friends

Fighting
more come, from an unstoppable well
full of anger, and a thirst
to kill
but I will not stop
Life
is in me yet.
But the malice of the bow man glints through his eyes
as he maliciously lets another
shaft
fly towards me

Pain
as a curtain flows over my eyes,
the yells of the hobbits
charging
to my aid as they fight
but they are taken
alone I try to stop the endless wave
they all seem so much
taller than me
as I realize my knees are on the ground
voice commanding

Rise up
brave warrior
and defend Middle Earth from evil!

Fighting
the ground is littered with black
bodies
there are less but it is a
struggle
the only one left
a bow man
but I am down and cannot give up
as my head slumps in
dispair
the voice whispers

Rise up
the end is near
face death as bravely as you can

Strength
not enough to stand
but enough to straighten tall on my knees
waiting
for the executioner to make it down the hill
he draws the string back

Blur
of sound and color
I fall onto my back, as a
battle
takes place feet away. I long to
rest
but I must tell Aragorn

Bending
over me, I tell what happened to the little ones
but only two
where is Frodo?
I tried to take the Ring
it is beyond our
Reach

Forgive
me I have
Failed
no, I am assured
You fought bravely
but I am not assured
the world of man will fall
my city to
Ruin

Aragorn promises
I do not know what strength is in my blood.
But I swear to you, I will not let
the White City
fall.
Nor our people
fail.

Our
People

Sword
in hand
I would have followed you,
my brother.
My captain.
My king.
One last time, I hear the voice

Rise up
Boromir
and face your last adventure

Floating
upwards towards the light
a whisper
reaches my ear

Be at peace, son of Gondor
