Gone Be the Days - A Lament

The lament of a Gondorian woman as a loved one heads to the seemingly hopeless Battle of the Morannon.

Gone be the days of peace and freedom
Ash and wind, ash and wind
Marching, marching into the sunset
Never, O never to return again
Gone be the days of summer sunrise
Dancing in the flower-ridden vales
Tears of ash slip down from my eyes
Who shall be left to hand down these tales?
And you are riding, riding into the sunset
Gone to the last glory ere the sun sets forever
Riding, riding, where shalt thou be led?
Far away from I who stand watching at this empty door
The veil of the shadow chokes out the stars
Do you remember when we stared at them above?
'Twas not so long ago when I was yours
And all that I needed was your love
Now you are riding, riding into the darkness
I watch you go so far away
O I would, I would I could stop this tide
And I would I could bring you back to me
Gone be the days of light and laughter
Tears and flame, tears and flame
Silence comes chasing the evening back
Fire devours; where be the rain?
Where be the rain? Where be the rain?
Ashen, crumbling, the stars shall die
Falling to the ravaged ground below
Like fallen flamed tears of the desolated sky
The rain and the rivers with ash shall flow
Gone be the days of peace and freedom
Ash and wind, ash and wind
Gone be the days...
