Bilbo, You Gave It To Me - A companion piece to "Frodo, It Will Soon Be Yours"

I sit on my bed and breathe in the peace
that flows so easily here.
Then suddenly I'm aware of the cold
ring of metal on my chest. Fear!
I touch it, I close my eyes,
What have I done?
My hope of peace far away flies,
What have I done?
I feel
overwhelmed,
I have taken a burden upon me.
I feel
weighed down,
I feel it pressing upon me.
What will the future hold?
I pray it will be better than past.
My limbs are all growing cold,
My tears fall, but I accept my task.
Gandalf, you've helped and advised,
Elrond, you've healed and you're wise,
Bilbo, you gave it to me.

All I want is to have peace,
That's all I want, I swear!
If only I could go home, please!
and walk my old paths so fair.
I'll give them the ring!
I don't want it, I don't!
Though, it would be a hard thing...
I've already accepted; I won't.
I feel
overwhelmed,
I have taken a burden upon me.
I feel
weighed down,
I feel it pressing upon me.
What will the future hold?
I pray it will be better than past.
My limbs are all growing cold,
My tears fall, but I accept my task.
Gandalf, you've helped and advised,
Elrond, you've healed and you're wise,
Bilbo, you gave it to me.

I sigh, my arm hurts,
I clutch it and feel that it's cold.
The memories flash - how it hurt!
Shut them out! Down I fold
Into the soft warm sheets.
The blessing of breeze flows,
the kiss of soft peace.
What will happen to me no one knows.
I feel
overwhelmed,
I have taken a burden upon me.
I feel
weighed down,
I feel it pressing upon me.
What will the future hold?
I pray it will be better than past.
My limbs are all growing cold,
My tears fall, but I accept my task.
Gandalf, you've helped and advised,
Elrond, you've healed and you're wise,
Bilbo, you gave it to me.

I don't blame Bilbo,
I'm glad he gave it away.
I couldn't bear to know
if he had to endure this pain.
A song floats through,
The Elves! I'd so longed to see them!
I wonder, what would they do
if one of them had to carry this burden?
I feel
overwhelmed,
I have taken a burden upon me.
I feel
weighed down,
I feel it pressing upon me.
What will the future hold?
I pray it will be better than past.
My limbs are all growing cold,
My tears fall, but I accept my task.
Gandalf, you've helped and advised,
Elrond, you've healed and you're wise,
Bilbo, you gave it to me.

This is my burden, I must bear it,
be the task easy or not.
I just pray that I can complete it,
win my battle, hard fought.
Yes, ring, you're going to fall
down in the great Cracks of Doom.
I'll carry you there, if I have to crawl,
Though, I know you may be my doom.
I feel
resigned,
I have taken a burden upon me.
I feel
determined,
I feel it pressing upon me.
What will the future hold?
I pray it will be better than past.
I am weak, but my limbs must be bold,
My tears dry, I accept my task.
Gandalf, you've helped and advised,
Elrond, you've healed and you're wise,
Bilbo, you gave it to me.
