A Tolkien Virgin: The Two Towers - Book III - Chapter 9 - The Journey Continues

"And still more water poured in, until at last Isengard looked like a huge flat saucepan, all steaming and bubbling."
Chapter 9
Flotsam and Jetsam

Ents are cool. The tale of how they wrecked Isengard is spectacular and entertaining... save Beechbone's death which is thankfully not described in greater detail. Incredible luck has saved the day again. If the Orcs had been at home when the Ents attacked I doubt the Ents would have faired so well, no matter how strong they are (and they are strong beyond my imagining!). It's just easier for ten thousand Orcs to pour out fire on them than it is for Saruman alone with his machines. But, maybe I underestimate them.

So finally, the Three Hunters and the two hobbits are reunited. I'm also glad to have the exact amount of days that have passed since the start of this book. That's an awful lot to happen in 9 days!

Not much else to say. Obviously, it's not good news that someone in the Shire was in league with Saruman somehow. In what way has evil sprouted in the Shire by now I wonder. How much of Sam's vision in Galadriel's mirror has come true?

till next time, keep thinking,
