The Darker Side of Tolkien - Inspired Fan Music

Bjorn emailed me the news that he's completed a work of music inspired by "the darker side of his books". Here's what he has to say about his work:

I am with this artist thing we call "electropods", we do remixes of each others' songs and also comes up with themes to make music about, like The Lord of the Rings, Dune, Dracula, Blade Runner etc...etc... But the Only one I have made so far is this piece of music...

I guess my inspiration came from that I wanted you to feel like you were really in a big battle with the beasts in Middle-earth, I wanted to have an incredible atmosphere that really sucks you in and punches you in the guts til you get nauseous...And when I made this song (took two days) I became totally involved with it and withdrew from the real world to just sit with my computer and play with my imagination...

The sounds the song are based on are mostly taken from different games and internet sites; there are no loops. I took one foot step from a game called "Shadow Man" and made the running/walking part, same with the panting...But that was from another game... The vocal sample? I dont know where it came from, but I thought it fitted quite well into the song...

My favorite part in all of his books is where we first meet Gollum. I just LOVE the way he speaks and talks to himself; he is one of the greatest characters I have ever met... I also love the opening for Bilbo when we get to meet the hobbit village and such, it really drew me in... And I saw it vividly in front of me.

It's not the symphonic fare you might expect, what with the upcoming films on the forefront of people's minds, but it's quite an engaging listen. I'd especially recommend giving it a listen with a good set of headphones! Click the link below to get it!
