NewsWire: 'Ring' Bearer - Entertainment Weekly

"Minister of Lord of the Rings" Cabinet Position.
"Chelseagirl" emailed me a scan of this flash from the Nov. 9 2001 issue of Entertainment Weekly. Click on the image at right to read what they say about the new "Minister of Lord of the Rings" cabinet position in the New Zealand government.

The issue also had a brief bit about the price of the first printed editions of LOTR (which is just a bit out of my range...):

The Enthusiasm for the new Lord of the Rings movie, The Fellowship of the Ring, is Hobbit-forming. Prices on hardbound first editions of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth trilogy are now out of this world. The three volumes, in their original dust jackets, are priced between $30,000 and $60,000, depending on condition (London's Peter Harrington Antiquarian Books, 44-207-591-0220). For those with more elfin budgets, opt for the beautifully packaged 13-disc BBC audio book ($69.96 Random House) conarrated by Ian Holm, who plays Bilbo Baggins in the movie.
