A Fresh Eye on the Fellowship: Chapter 7 - Looking at LOTR from a different point of view

Yo quero Taco Bell-o, In the house of Tom Bombadill-o.
Here I am, finally, “In the House of Tom Bombadil.” From this chapter I have learned a few more things about Tom. He knows a lot about the past history of Middle Earth, and he also knows a lot about the Ring, although that was never stated outright. I was not surprised that Tom caught Frodo trying to leave with the Ring on.

There is, however, one question that is really nagging at me and I feel that I am about to get involved in a debate that could go on for years. Tom states that he is older than the trees and the rivers and the mountains. If that is the case, then is Tom Bombadil a Valar, or is he something else entirely? If he was a Valar then why wasn’t he mentioned in the Silmarillion? If any of you fans have an answer to these questions, then please message me and let me know.

Also in this chapter, much to my delight, we learned of a sort of summoning spell that the hobbits could use if they are in trouble. That means that Tom will be appearing again and I am looking forward to it.

Speaking of foreshadowing, I am looking forward to an encounter with the Barrow-wights. I wonder if they are going to be in the movie. I think that they would look awesome.

Just some food for thought,
