A Fresh Eye on the Fellowship: Chapter 20 - Looking at LOTR from a different point of view.

Why would you want to leave?
In this chapter we bid "Farewell to Lorien" and turn our heads towards the future, whether it be Gondor or Mordor. This is a decision that will have to be faced in the next two chapters. Aragorn can only hold off for so long.

I won't bother predicting who will go where since I already know so I will just get to the point. I am beginning to see this journey as having many stops along the way where the Fellowship can rest and get their wits back after being hounded by the Enemy's forces. However, Lothlorien served a greater purpose than just a place of rest. It also served as a test for some of the characters.

Lorien took everyone by surprise when they first entered the mystical place. Gimli is now friendly towards the Elves, having developed a close relationship with Legolas, something neither of them expected in Rivendell. Also I think Frodo and Sam are a little more dedicated to completing their journey. It remains to be seen exactly how Galadriel and Celeborn affected our heroes and I am sure that their words will remain in the hearts and minds of the Fellowship.

I would very much like to hear your comments about this chapter and on Lothlorien in general. How would Lothlorien impact on the people of today's society and on ourselves?

Just some food for thought,
James
