A Fresh Eye on the Fellowship: Chapter 10 - Looking at LOTR from a different point of view

Oh, I look so 'devil'ish.
In this very eventful chapter, Strider reveals his true identity after Frodo gets a letter from Gandalf telling him to enlist the help of Strider. In the letter is a verse that foreshadows the destiny of Strider.

Now, again, without giving too much away, Strider’s destiny is indeed obvious giving the third book’s title, “The Return of the King.” It is also evident that this is his destiny because he possesses the sword that cut the Ring from Sauron’s finger.

Also it would seem that my hunch was wrong that Strider and Butterbur were in league with each other. It was great to see the tension between these two unfold in the chapter. Obviously there is some back story to this. Are there anymore Strider stories besides what is written here? If there are then please let me know.

I would also like to express my joy that Viggo Mortensen will be playing Strider in the movie. I have liked him ever since I saw him in The Prophecy as Lucifer. I have never seen a bad movie with him in it so I hope I’m not disappointed here. What are your opinions on Mortensen and his role as Strider?

Just some food for thought,
James
