Norway's renowned Tolkien fanatics are already camping out in the gathering winter cold and gloom. This time the occasion is the premiere of the final part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Return of the King. Ticket sales for the Dec. 17 premiere go on sale Oct. 27, and enthusiasts have already started their three-week vigil for the best seats on opening night.
The multi-million dollar refurbishment project has been championed by the film's director, New Zealander Peter Jackson. He has produced the Lord of the Rings trilogy at his Wellington headquarters - the first such large scale movie production in New Zealand.
"One thing that jumped off the screen right away: Howard Shore's terrific score seems even better used in "Return." And Jackson has grown even more accomplished with his special effects and CGI. One battle scene in particular, which starts with about 500 extras and then pulls back to an army of computer generated thousands, will be quite stunning on a big screen."

I actually got my first taste of LOTR-inspired music from hard rockers Led Zeppelin, whose singer/lyricist Robert Plant thought little of making random references to Tolkien's works in his songs. Thus classics like Ramble On ("in the darkest depths of Mordor") and The Battle of Evermore ("the ringwraiths ride in black") hint at characters in LOTR, without really clarifying what they mean.
The coming-of-age film "Secondhand Lions" is getting a firsthand box-office boost from the final "Lord of the Rings" movie. The two-minute, 30-second trailer will soon debut online and at lordoftherings.net on Monday. It will come out later on television.
Check out the new Q&A feature on The Lord of the Rings star Miranda Otto as she discusses the challenges of battle scenes and unrequited love in The Two Towers and our upcoming release - The Return of the King.
It would appear we finally have a confirmed date... at least according to USA Today. Secondhand Lions, a New Line Cinema film, is due to be released on the 19th and it was with this film that we originally speculated a trailer would be released...
