Primary Hobbit Cast Announced!
Martin Freeman (well known for his role in the original British incarnation of The Office) will indeed be playing Bilbo Baggins. He's been rumored for role for a long time now (gosh, years, I think). It's good to finally put a Hobbitish face on a character we all already know.
Richard Armitage, (from the U.K. series MI-5, and will also be in Captain America: The First Avenger), will play Thorin Oakenshield, the driven leader of the Company of Dwarves Gandalf introduces to Frodo.
Aidan Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders) will play Kili and Fili, respectively.
The last of the dwarves will be Graham McTavish (Secretariat, 24) as Dwalin, John Callen as Oin, Stephen Hunter as Bombur, Mark Hadlow as Dori and Peter Hambleton as Gloin.
Of course, we all expect Andy Serkis to return as Gollum, and Ian McKellen to reprise his role as Gandalf the Grey. The remaining roles are certain to engender quite a bit of discussion--I'm particularly interested in Beorn... who could pull of that rather unique character?
