New Romantic Plotline for The Hobbit... or just a bit of a Humorous Sideline?

Fili and KiliFili and Kili (Kili's on the right)In the most recent issue of Total Film Magazine, they highlight a featured called "Summer 2012 Future 100", presumably noting today's up and coming future stars... and 6 actors in The Hobbit were featured: Turner (Kili), Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Luke Evans (Bard the Bowman) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Smaug the dragon and the Necromancer).

What's so interesting about it? Aiden Turner seems to imply that a bit of a romantic page is turned with the movie-created character Tauriel (Evangeline Lily). Here's what he said:

"Kili's part has been expanded from the novel; as well as chasing treasure, he's also pursuing female elf Tauriel. But is he setting his sights too high? 'I guess he knows nothing can ever happen,' he explains. 'She's about 20ft tall and he's only two!'"

Surprising?  Well, not completely.  Clearly Gimli fell under Galadriel's "spell" in The Lord of the Rings... perhaps Jackson decided this movie needed the same in order to spark a bit more inter-species tension... My guess is that this'll just be a bit of a humorous sideline to the film.  Something to add a few laughs in between the rest of the elf/dwarf tension.
