A first edition of the Hobbit by JRR Tolkien - published in 1937 - has sold for £6,000 at an auction in Norfolk.
The book was bought in 1937 and stayed with the same family in the county until its sale.
The auction at Keys in Aylsham on Friday morning attracted worldwide interest following the popularity of the Lord of the Rings films.
A dealer in Lincolnshire bought the book for a local collector.
Auctioneer Andrew Bullock said: "The whole series of Tolkien from The Hobbit to The Lord of the Rings trilogy have out-sold so many other popular books over the years and show no sign of abating in their popularity... they're timeless and they're utterly respected."
