Toronto holds open audition for Lord of the Rings musical - National Post
An estimated 2,000 people turned out Friday to an open audition for the upcoming musical version of Lord of the Rings in Toronto.
"It's sort of like a cattle vibe in here today," said hopeful Danny Greaves, lead singer of the Juno-Award winning band, the Watchmen.
Special treatment for recognizable names and faces was pushed aside -- for one very long day, at least -- as Mirvish Productions threw the doors open to all comers for the open-call auditions.
The lineup outside the auditorium's side entrance stretched around a parking lot the size of a football field. Staff estimated the call drew upwards of 2,000 people -- trained actors, hopeful amateurs, and everything in-between.
The $27-million musical adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's hit trilogy will have its world premiere in Toronto in 2006.
