Teen Creates Rings Movie for Website
The Evening Post - October 2000
A short film showing sets from The Lord of the Rings project which can be downloaded off the Interent has been created by a Silverstream teenager.
Jonny Grindlay, 14, created the four-minute film, using videotape footage of sets and photographs.
The film shows filming locations for the multimillion-dollar project around the country.
It includes the Dry Creek Quarry next to Haywards Hill--where the set for the tower Minas Tirith is being build--and sites at Mr Victoria, Fort Dorset at Seatoun, the Hutt River, and near Mt Potts in Canterbury.
In footage filmed near Ohakune, actors or extras in costume can be clearly seen practising with swords.
Some of the footage is from TV news and a montage of photographs from other websites and newspapers, including The Evening Post.
The film can be downloaded from Jonny's website, which he set up at the start of the year to follow coverage of the three films. In August Jonny visited a set in Taita during filming and met several of the project's stars including Sir Ian McKellen who plays the wizard Gandalf.
The video can be downloaded on the website's news section at www.realmofthering.com.
