A Middle-Earth Gift-Giving Guide - Whether giving or receiving, the loot of Middle-earth has substantially increased. Here's a guide to help you along the journey!
Dear Father Christmas and Polar Bear....
What to get for that Tolkien geek friend of yours? Or, better yet, what to put on YOUR wish list to Father Christmas? The catalog of Lord of the Rings merchandise is quite astounding. In years past, choosing which book to add to your collection or perhaps a pewter figurine or your Tolkien calendar made gift giving and requesting rather simple.
Those days are long gone, mellyn. Now, you REALLY have to narrow down your choices and be extra, extra good all year long so that you can qualify for the really GOOD stuff! To help you out, with giving and/or receiving, I thought that while I did my own holiday shopping, I would pick out the niftiest goodies and share them with you. The list is long, so we will get right to it! Happy Holidays to you all! May peace, love, and joy come knocking at your door and stay for the entire year!
Disclaimer: You are going to find LOTS and LOTS of Middle Earth treasures as you follow the links in this article. Neither Elbren nor TORC is responsible for any spending attacks or sudden impulse buying that may occur. Guard your credit card!

Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers by Electronic Arts
Gaming Platform: Playstation 2 (This game will be soon released for Game Boy Advanced)
Why Buy It? This game absolutely rocks. ROCKS. I am not an avid PS2 gamer nor was I very skilled at console games when I played this. I LOVED it. Rent a PS2 if you don't own one, and if you own a PS2, get this game! For a more detailed set of reviews, click below:

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by Universal Interactive
Gaming Platform: Playstation 2, XBox, PC, and Game Boy Advanced
HOME PAGE: http://www.lotr.com
Why Buy It? The game is not long, (perhaps 12 hours of gameplay for the gaming beginner), and there are valid criticisms of it not being "true" to the books, but it IS a walk through Middle Earth and it is delightful. For a more detailed set of reviews, click below:

OLD MAN WILLOW IS A MEAN OLE TREE
RISK by Hasbro
If you are a RISK player and an LOTR fan, how could you POSSIBLY not have this game and still be able to live with yourself? 'Nuff said.
The Search by KOSMOS Illustrated by John Howe
What? I know, I had not heard of this one either until I was browsing through my local Border's Bookstore. It's a gorgeous game designed for 2 players and takes 30-40 minutes to play. If you can't find it at your local bookstore or toy store, you can order it here:

The Confrontation by Sophisticated Games Illustrated by John Howe
Another one that I found on a treasure hunt and one that I had not heard anything about until I saw it at Border's. 2 player game, 30-40 minutes in design, very nicely done.

Decipher's Tabletop Roleplaying LOTR Game
Ah, the days of olde when dice and a character sheet were all that you needed to find your way into a world of Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and other nasties. Decipher's RPG for Lord of the Rings is your ticket to tabletop, dice-tossin, Middle Earth.
Lord of the Rings Board Game by Parker Brothers
I have this game and it is gorgeously illustrated by John Howe. This game is HARD. HARD. HARD. I've never made it through Moria alive myself. However, apparently someone has because there are now two expansion sets: Expansion with Bree and Isengard and Sauron Expansion.

ARMS AND ARMOUR
http://www.museumreplicas.com. I own Sting and Glamdring and I love them. They are really beautiful swords; I've seen the others and held them and they, too, are quite nice. For the sword collecting Tolkien fan, these will begin the building of a superb armoury!
Noble CollectionMovie replica swords but on the more expensive side of things; these swords are made in Toledo, Spain and do vary in size from the United Cutlery editions. I have heard comments about Gimli's Axe that might deter one from purchasing that particular item, but the swords seem to be well worth the coin. The Shards of Narsil (or, Shard of Narsil) from Noble is vastly different from the United Cutlery version as are the decorative display plaques for the Noble swords.
Lonely Mountain ForgeFor the Tolkien purist armour collector and/or reenactor, The Lonely Mountain Forge offers custom made Tolkien inspired arms and armour. The Lonely Mountain Forge is not limited to swords or bladed weapons; helms, greaves, and vambraces are just a few of the armour pieces that you can have created for you or any Tolkien bladehead that you know!
Noble Collection www.noblecollection.com
The Ring of Aragorn:Try not to get too terribly riled that they are calling this the Ring of Aragorn rather than the rightful Ring of Barahir. This ring is exquisite. The detail is amazing and it holds up well with everyday use, (from my own experience.) The serpents are tantalising.
Galadriel's Ring:Nenya, the Elven Ring of Power; the Ring of Adamant. It's not what I had pictured in my head all of these years, but it is a very attractive ring. There's an Adamant in there somewhere...or not.
The Elven Brooch:Gorgeous. I have one that I absolutely love and when I see other folks wearing them, I am reminded of handsome these brooches are. This is a really nice gift for a Tolkien fan!
Arwen's Evenstar Pendant: Another really gorgeous piece of jewelry offered by Noble Collection. I've seen this worn and it is truly beautiful.
Badali Jewelry www.badalijewelry.com
I own one of Paul Badali's One Rings and have had nothing but wonderful service and communication with Paul during and after the purchase. If you're going to buy a One Ring, then you should probably get yours from this man who is a devoted Tolkien fan and a master jewelsmith. Paul also has his own renditions of the Elven Rings of Power that are much more book based than are the movie rings.
LOTR Fan Club Watch www.lotrfanclub.com
Yep, I own one of these, too. It's actually, I think, a nice watch and the Elvish nine always makes me grin when I check the time. It's not a full map of Middle Earth, so if you get lost anywhere south of Eriador, you're in trouble. Still, it's pretty snazzy.
Extended DVD Collector's Gift Set:This really is a VERY nice gift set for a Tolkien fan. The Pillars of Argonath bookends, the extended National Geographic DVD, other little goodies; and, of course, the extra 30 minutes of footage that proves Peter Jackson IS a book fan! For a more detailed review, please go here:
Toy Biz figures:These are getting harder and harder to find! Toy Biz is chopping off their own feet as they make release announces and then cancel before anyone even gets a look at the new action figures. However, some have made it off of the assembly line and onto the store shelves. These are great for kids to play with and I know a whole buncha adults that are *ahem* collecting them, too!
Kids' costume sets:I saw these and WISHED that I were 12 again! Check out the wide array: Frodo, Hobbit, Gandalf, Deluxe Gandalf, Arwen, Ringwraith, Deluxe Ringwraith, and SUPER Deluxe Ringwraith.
Rawcliffe Pewter:There have been pewter Lord of the Rings figures around for a very long time; however, collecting an entire set has been something of a challenge as FINDING all of the pieces before they discontinue is more than difficult. Not so if you intend to collect the Rawcliffe pieces. Tom Bombadil, Goldberry, Galadriel, Gandalf...they are all here and they are VERY nice! For about $25 a pop, an inexpensive way to display your favorite Middle Earth heroes and heroines.
Not All Who Wander Are Lost...
Atlas of Middle Earth:If you or your favorite Tolkien fan don't have Karen Fonstad's Atlas of Middle Earth, then you had better not attempt a journey to Middle Earth. Or roleplay. Or write. Or wonder....oh heck, just get one!!! It is truly essential to your Tolkien library!
Map Set from LOTR Fan Club:These maps are absolutely wonderful! The LOOK like they were drawn and written in the library of Imladris! Limited to 1,000 only, rolled (not folded), with six maps of The Shire, West Gondor, East Gondor, Rohan, Eregion, and Mordor. Quite nice!
Tree ornaments:If you've got a Christmas or Yule tree, then how can you consider it complete without at least ONE Middle Earth ornament? Strider, Arwen, Saruman, Gimli, Frodo and Bilbo, and more.
It Comes in Pints?!
Applause Pint Sets:Yes! It does! And you can have your very own Green Dragon Inn and Prancing Pony Pint mugs! They also make Rohirrm and White Hand of Saruman pint mugs!
Mathoms for the LOTR Fan Who Has Everything Else...
Do you already own everything ever inspired by Middle Earth? Well, if you or your favorite Tolkien fan has bought everything that there is to buy, here are few things that may still be a surprise....most can be found here:
Moria Picture Frame I'm particular to this mathom as the speaking of the word "mellon" to open the doors of Moria is a very endearing scene, for me, from both the books and the extended DVD. Around $15, a great deal for the Tolkien fan who has everything!
There and Back Again Journal I received this journal last year for Yule; it's exquisite! Beautiful in design and the pages, too, are very Middle Earth. Keep your own Red Book!
Magnets If your house is like my house, you can never have enough refrigerator magnets. Why not make them Lord of the Rings magnets?
LOTR Chocolate barsCollectible chocolate bars, by True Confections, with your favorite characters on the front and inside a mini collectible poster. Twelve (12) in all to collect. These are great stocking stuffers!!!!
Pipes for Hobbit Weed Is this a perfect gift for the fan who has it all or what? These are actually very nice pipes, and even if you don't smoke Old Toby from the Southfarthing, they look great on display.
Stamp kits Straight from Kiwi land, the stamps of Middle Earth. I don't know if they'll get a package as far as The Shire, but they're very pretty to look at!
Happy Shopping to you and a very Merry Holiday season!
