Think you can save Middle-earth? A new game offered by Jamdat Mobile and Verizon Wireless challenges "Lord of the Rings" fans to do just that on their mobile phones.
A simulation of the action-packed film "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" is available through Verizon's Get It Now service. The game lets players engage the heroic characters Gimli, Aragorn, Legolas and Theoden in battles with evil Orcs, Wargs and other foes. The action follows their treacherous trek from the Plains of Rohan to the climactic siege of Helm's Deep.
Mobile Entertainment Trilogy
Jamdat has created an applications trilogy of its own based on New Line Cinema's film adaptations of the three classic fantasy novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. In addition to the strategy game are a "Lord of the Rings" trivia game and a viewer that lets Get It Now customers download and save images, maps, character biographies and location descriptions from the movies "The Two Towers" and "The Fellowship of the Ring."
Jamdat will deliver similar features to Verizon for "The Return of the King" when the final installment of the film trilogy is released during the holidays at the end of this year.
In the single-player game, the phone keypad is used to strategically move the four characters while navigating terrain, gauging weapon range and maintaining the health of the protagonists. Each turn consists of movement and action phases, letting the player direct a character to any portion of the map highlighted with an outlined square to initiate an attack.
