Tolkien Reading Day this Saturday! - Get Ready for the big day at Marymount Manhattan College

Just got the following info:

 On Saturday March 29th Heren Istarion and Marymount Manhattan College will be hosting: Tolkien Reading Day in the Nugent Lounge of Marymount Manhattan College 71st St. between 2nd and 3rd avenues, 1pm-5pm. We have had great response to this event when it was first announced. We have asked those interested in attending to RSVP due to the space limitations, and ask if you are interested in attending to please do so. If you have already done so then we look forward to meeting with you.

We will have refreshments for attendees and we ask if you are willing(some have asked already if they can), to bring your own as well. Our Co-chair Jessica Burke is making her famous "South Farthing Waybread" for the event . We do have selection of recipes on our site for you to choose from .

The following is the schedule of events which is tentative to change:

1pm Opening Introduction  from the Writing Center Director of MMC, an MMC representative and Heren Istarion

115-2-30pm Readings by Heren Istarion Staff with brief Lectures

A Video discussion of the Tolkien Documentary from the LOTR: FOTR Extended Edtion

230pm-3pm Open Mike readings for all attendees who wish to read.

3pm-4pm Costume Contest contestants call and judging please read the following concerning this contest.

a) We have not had many say they will come in costume. If you wish to do so please keep in mind you must preregister at the door to enter

b) No weapons of any kind even piece tied swords and blades.

c)Once you are registered you can go and mingle with the crowd at your leisure to ensure votes on your costume,

d) We will call you up to speak a moment or two on your costume, each contestant will get a chance.

e) If we do not have enough costume entries, we will have an extended Trivia contest.

4-5pm Trivia contest.

This will be our traditional format that has worked well for us in the past.

All contestants will be battling for prizes from New Line Cinema, Houghton Mifflin, Sideshow Weta, Decipher and The Shirepost.

Unfortunately the NYC LOTR Product Champions for the Decipher Collectible Card Game could not make it. But with many thanks they have donated some great cards for our event. Look for the display at the event. Also if you wish to know more of the LOTR CCG and where to play in NYC we will be posting more info on the site tomorrow.

When you come to the event please check in at the event table, attendees will recieve a number for a special raffle we will be holding.
