Speaking Elvish: Director spearheads exhibit looking at technology of 'Rings' films - MetroWestDailyNews

Here's an excerpt interesting article the LOTR movie exhibit at the Museum of Science in Boston:

Can Frodo, Gandalf and the creepy orcs of Middle Earth popularize 21st century science?

Ioannis Miaoulis, director of the Museum of Science, thinks so.

He believes a new exhibit about "The Lord of the Rings" movies "will plant a seed about the exciting world of science and technology" on display at the Boston museum.

Like J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved novels, the exhibit carries visitors into a fantastic realm where ancient wisdom collides with the forces of a terrible new knowledge.

"The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy -- The Exhibition" features costumes, props, art and the cutting-edge technology director Peter Jackson used to make his award-winning movies that dominated the recent Oscar awards and grossed more than $300 million.

A seeming departure from the museum's recent impressive "Einstein" exhibit, the new show also addresses timeless human dilemmas albeit through the lens of popular entertainment.

Miaoulis said Jackson's films examine pressing spiritual issues like humans' place in the world, protection of the environment and the limits of technology.

"From my biased eye as an educator and engineer, this exhibit provides a unique opportunity to see the foundation of great films that are fun and great art," he said.
