Press Release for Immediate Release
3rd January 2004
The toast is "The Professor"
Tolkien's Birthday Toast!
On January 3rd Tolkien fans around the world are invited to raises a glass and toast the birthday of this much loved author at 9pm (local times).
The Tolkien Society has a webpage (www.tolkiensociety.org.uk/toast/2004/index.html) where Tolkien fans across the globe can let other fans know where they'll be celebrating if they're hosting a party, or just what particular tipple they'll be raising. Fans will be able to check the webpage and see who is celebrating where and if they wish to get in touch and join in.
Other than raising a glass, Tolkien fans can celebrate at parties or by visiting the cinema to see Peter Jackson's version of The Return of the King; cinemas in the UK, Ireland and parts of the USA have told us when they will be showing the films and that they welcome fans of Britain's favourite author. Pages with their details can be found within the Toast section of the Tolkien Society website and cinema managers around the world are invited to contact the publicity officer to add their cinemas to the list.
The Birthday Toast event should be understood to consist of the saying of the toast and a drink (not necessarily alcoholic) of an individual partakers' choice. The information posted by anybody on the Birthday Toast web pages will not be sold or passed on to any third party (outside of the context of the web pages and the 'Birthday Toast' event).
Except where somebody has registered their consent with us, information on the web pages will not be used beyond the life of the pages except for statistical purposes. By sending the participation form you give the us permission to publish relevant information. We reserve the right to contact anybody who supplies information. Whether any particular details are included on the web pages or not is at our sole discretion. We provide the web pages on the understanding that if you use them you do so at your own risk. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any of the information contained on the pages.
The Tolkien Society does not condone drinking alcohol if it endangers the health or safety of the drinker or others, or contravenes the law.
