Press Release for Immediate Release

Tolkien Highly Rated by Librarians

The Tolkien Society and fans around the world are celebrating the news of the latest poll that puts Tolkien near the top of a "must read" list put together by members of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). The survey result were released to coincide with World Book Day (2nd March) and full details can be found here: www.mla.gov.uk

The Tolkien Society welcomes this news as it shows, just three weeks prior to Tolkien Reading Day (25th March), that librarian's recognise the worth of Tolkien's major work "The Lord of the Rings."

Although being ranked 3rd is unusual for LotR in recent polls the main discussion point, after 50 years and publication in over 40 languages, surrounds the bestowing of the label "classic."

Details of all these events and groups can be found online: World Book Day (www.worldbookday.com); Tolkien Reading Day (www.tolkiensociety.org/ed/tolkienreadingday.html); The Tolkien Society (www.tolkiensociety.org) and the MLA (www.mla.gov.uk).
