HarperCollins to Publish New Tolkien Book: The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún
In May of this year, HarperCollins will be publishing Tolkien's previously unpublished retelling of the legend of Sigurd and Gudrún.
Written by Tolkien when he was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford university in the 1920s and 1930s, he uses English narrative verse to extensively retell the epic Norse tales of Sigurd the Völsung and the Fall of the Niflungs. Not surprisingly, Christopher Tolkien edited the book, and added his own introduction to the work.
This book will, of course, be a more academic read than his Middle-earth fiction, but I'm sure those of us deep into Tolkien studies will appreciate this new glimpse into his literary pleasures outside of the world he created.
