Peter Jackson will take time out from filming King Kong and suing Hollywood studio New Line Cinema to speak about his Lord of the Rings movies in Sydney next week.
Jackson will speak for two hours at the Powerhouse Museum in the Australian city on March 12. The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy - The Exhibition, developed with Te Papa, has been on show there for several months, attracting 128,000 visitors.
Tickets for An Evening with Peter Jackson are $A65 ($NZ70).
Jackson is suing New Line for a bigger share of the profits from The Fellowship of the Ring. The first Rings films made about $NZ1.187 billion at the box office, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars from the sales of DVDs, videos, computer games and merchandise.
According to British newspaper The Times, if Jackson wins he will also be entitled to more profits from the second and third Rings films. It estimated the total amount of money made to date from all three films - including box office, DVD, computer games and merchandising - was $NZ8 billion.
Jackson had enlisted Hollywood lawyer Stanton "Larry" Stein, who often represents artists who believe they have been shortchanged by studios.
Mr Stein is also representing a British firm suing Walt Disney for profits from Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
