  2. he's one of my favourite characters, and this painting is (as shield maiden of rohan) one of my favourites too

  3. I love how Anke Eissmann's characters are so different from the way they appear in the movies. I've nothing against David Wenham, but this is the way Faramir is supposed to look: dark hair, proud features...

    *swoon*

  5. NienorNiniel, I imagine that he's pondering the dream about Isildur's Bane and the Halfling.

Seek for the Sword that was broken:
    In Imladris it dwells;
    There shall be counsels taken
    Stronger than Morgul spells.
There shall be shown a token
That Doom is near at hand.
    Isildur's Bane shall waken,
And the Halfling forth shall stand.

Remember, Boromir went to Rivendell to seek the meaning of the dreams that had been troubling his brother.

I still think this picture of Faramir is so handsome.

  6. But seeing it a little larger, I like it even better! Wonderful!
Donsiliel: I think you're right, that's exactly what it looks like...

  7. This is probably her best Faramir. (she is, to me, the only artist that can draw Faramir.) Is he pondering the riddle, as Donisiliel suggested? That is what I would guess.

    Wonderful!

  8. He's wrapped in his mother Finduilas' mantle! The one with the stars on the hem and the edges, right? He looks as though he senses the danger of the times fast approaching, feeling the oppressive foreboding that she felt and which drained her of life. Oh, Anke! How Freudian!

  9. He could be thinking of so many things really...his prophetic dreams, the troubled times...he might even be in the Houses of Healing thinking about Eowyn.

    It's so beautiful.

  10. Ack ack ack, no no. Icky. I liked the explanation I got for the painting much better.

Turning and surveying the room in search of a blanket or cloak, his eyes fell on something glinting faintly in the dim light. He stepped closer and recognised Éowyn's mantle, with the embroidered stars softly reflecting the starsheen. Apparently the servants had brought it over from the other room. He glanced at it for a moment, images from his dream flooding his mind. Then cautiously, almost reverently he reached out for it and wrapped it about his shoulders, and returned to the windowseat.

  12. Anke-Eissman once again captures Faramir perfectly. She's my favourite Tolkien artist (closely followed by Alan Lee), but have trouble finding her work online. I've never seen this one before, but I agree that it ties for my favourite of hers with the coloured one of Faramir and Eowyn sitting under the tree in the Houses of Healing (I usually use the War of the Ring.Net's gallery to look at Anke-Eissman's work, so I don't know the title).
My immediate thought was that it is Faramir in the Houses of Healing the evening after he meets Eowyn. I also like the idea that this is he pondering one of his dreams (either the 'Seek for the Sword' one of the one about the Fall of Numenor). But it's absolutely lovely.

  13. I do like this picture a lot, its my favorite so far. I only think his nose isn't quite right, but I can't say just why...
