Chmiel's Maedhros pictures (Maedhros/Maglor with Elrond/Elros, this one, and Fingon rescuing Maedhros) are what got me interested in reading more of the Silm (I'd read only parts). Wonderful, wonderful work.
Looks ok. She's done far better pictures though.
This is beautiful work: so realistic and emotional. Wonderful job. The eagle especially.
pues tu si sabes usar la acuarela carnal!!!.
I LOVE THE PICTURE! MY GOD MY GOD! I rate it 5000000000!
I love this! You've captured a feel not just a look! I've tried to create a similar effect but I'm just not that good! Bravo!
Meadhros is sorrible looking in a good way! The Thorondor is fantastic!!
I always imagined Maedhros with dark hair... but that's just personal preference. Gorgeous picture!

For those of you who do not know what this painting is about, here is an extremely abriged version of the saving of Maedhros, my favorite part of the Silmarillion.
~*~WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS~*~
Maedhros, son of Feanor, was captured in battle by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. He was taken to a precipice of Thangorodrim and was caught cruely to the rock by the wrist of his right hand in a band of steel. His people could find no way to negotiate his return, but, unbeknownst to anyone, his friend Fingon journeyed to Thangorodrim alone in search of him. He climbed in despair and could find no way into Morgoth's stronghold. In defiance of the Orcs, he drew forth his harp and began to sing a song of Valinor and his voice rang throughout the great crevasses and mournful hollows that before had known no song but that of pain. Suddenly, far above him, a voice took up the song.
Fingon climbed to the foot of the precipice and then could go no further. Maedhros, being in anguish without hope, begged Fingon to shoot him. Fingon, seeing no better hope, strung his bow and cried to Manwe 'O King to whom all birds are dear, speed now this feathered shaft, and recall some pity for the Noldor in their need!' His prayer was answered swiftly, for Manwe had commanded a watch upon Morgoth as he held still some pity for the Elves in exile. Even as Fingon bent his bow, Thorondor, King of Eagles, flew down from the high airs, and staying Fingon's hand, bore him to the precipice where his friend hung. But Fingon could not release the hell-wrought bond upon his wrist, nor sever it, nor draw it from the stone. Again therefore in his pain Maedhros begged that he would slay him; but Fingon cut off his hand above the wrist and Thorondor bore them back to Mithrim.
By this deed Fingon won great renown, and all the Noldor parised him; and all the hatred between the houses of Fingolfin and Feanor was assauged.
