We're talking about LOR dwarves, not Dragonlance Dwarves... I think Flint would smash Gimli anyday!!! but yes, he looks fantastic!!!

John Rhys-Davies - Heaven bless him! - will be fully
deserving, I'm sure, of a lock
of the Lady Galadriel's hair
for his portrayal of Gimli, Son of Gloin, in the upcoming
movie. He is a wonderful actor
(and also a "true-blue bloke",
I'll wager, off-camera as well). But - is he a dwarf?
At least he wasn't the last time I looked!
And this gives me pause to
comment: you know, as the days
pass, and I learn more and more about this impending dis-
aster of a movie, I'm begin-
ing to wonder: how much do the
"powers that be" really care
about Tolkien's original con-
cepts?
Gimli is supposed to be a Dwarf, and a member of a fel-
lowship of Men, Elves, Hobbits, Wizards and DWARVES
(as Prof. Tolkien would write
it). John Rhys-Davies is not a
Dwarf: are they going to cast
him with a company of Giants
to make him appear as one, or
maybe show him only from the
waist up, or doesn't it mat-
ter to them at all?
I'm sure that there are many
highly talented "little peo-
ple", in Hollywood and else-
where, just waiting for that
long-awaited, justly-deserved
"big break". Were any of them
even considered? Or is it just
another case of "Let's get it
done, get it out, rake in the
cash and split"? Sadly, it's
beginning to seem this way.
But - Give 'em hell, Gimli!
Swing that axe, Big John; and
give us all your usual pro-
fessional best!

We already have Mr. Rhys-Davies in costume as Gimli
in Sect. 5, and it's much better.

I think John makes an excellant Gimli--but I must say that my all time favorite picture of Gimli is when he's in the snow on the mountain saying "We should go through the mines of Moria!"
