Isn?t Galadriel suppose to have sharp ears?
1. No, Tolkien Elves dont have pointed ears.
2. I think that Cate has the ability to act a wide variety of roles, of course we dont know until we see it, but I think that she will do very well --(at least she's not Liv Tyler)

You've got your Tolkien elves (he was the first to use the letter v in the word 'elvish') and your AD&D elves confused. No pointed ears. I'm not familiar with Cate's acting abilities, but the appearance is perfect.

I just think she is perfect for the role.

Cete can be the role for Galadriel.. but she is not quite right for it... there is something missiong in her face.. her hair is too tacky or hard.. it doesn't look shining and flowwing.. i don't know.. but it is not enough.

First of all, Her hair should be much longer, golden and flowing with something holding the hair out of her face, (like a simple, un-elaborate head piece) but not pulled back in a pony tail.
Great actress as a member of the cast?: yes.
Perfect choice for the role?: No.
Pretty?: Yes
As beautiful as Galadriel? No.
Who would be my choice?: Jessica Biel. Young, beautiful, correct features. Perhaps not Blanchet's calibur of actress, but if she were cast, I'd give her a 5.
Look here for photos and I think you'll agree:

Of course, she would need blonde hair...
At any rate, I'm sure Cate will do a fine job.

I think she's a great actress and I saw a picture of her as Galadriel she looks awesome. Just as I imagined Galadriel would look. Her hair looks way better too guys. So stop freaking out.

Could not picture a better Galadriel myself. And since some have voted twice (with what I consider absurdly low scores) so I shall vote twice.

Ye i agree with Barrow Wight ... she isn't meant to be looking elvish ... in y opinion she has the beauty and charisma toplay Galadriel to perfection !

Caerwen- "Well at least it isn't Gwynneth Paltrow!!!" - LOL! and- "Was any human ever going to be right in this role?" - Good point. I was thinking that making the audience believe that Galadriel is as beautiful as they say she is, even if they don't exactly see it, is what's important. And I also sorta had the thought that BTuna expressed-"With all the movie magic they can do these days, why aren't we seeing a god-like version of Cate, one that would do Tolkien's description of Galadriel justice?" But I think Cate Blanchett is a pretty good choice. I'm actually glad they didn't go for a supermodel type.

I love Cate as an actress, especially in Elizabeth, she was glorious. I think she has the perfect grace, elegance, wisdom, and beauty to play Galadriel.
No offense, but Jessica Biel? Gack!! She's on 7th Heaven for god's sake!

She's perfect. And she's a brilliant actress.

Hey i guess she'll be okay, but hey wasn't galadriel supposed to have long, full, flowing blonde hair? not a ratty pony tail. Gimli is supposed to be accepting beautiful strands of golden hair, not dishwater blond split ends. but oh well, guess i can't think of anyone really cut out for the part , i think she's a great actress, the director must know the books and he must know what he'sdoing, but, they could have done better in the hair and makeup department. for all you tolkien lovers, i will produce a better rendition of the lord of the rings and i won't leave ANYTHING out, that is when i get the money.

She has the dignity and grace required of the part, and she was great in Bandits -- proving she can do the character acting too. Remember people not to judge the CAST pictures as if they're actual pics of the characters. That's what the hair & makeup people are for -- you'll see, in the finished product, which will win awards.

After Luthien Tinuviel Galadriel is supposed to be the most beautiful creature in Middle Earth. When my dad first read the book to me when I was little I envisioned her so lovely that the very sight of her beauty would bring a tear to your eye. Cate Blanchett is by far not this person and the only tears that are brought to my eyes by her is the thought that they gave her the part.

I think that some of you are a little too hard on Cate. I believe that the above picture is just a head shot, and not an actual pic from the upcomming movie.
She be in a long wig and with more make-up on in the movies.
This is the BEST casting selection that Jackson has done in the movie based upon the clips that I've seen. Including the very cute Frodo and Sam. She will do alright in this role, but I can't help but wonder about the rest of the cast. We'll see soon!

i dunno... i had my first read of the Lord of thre Rings when i was in junior high, coughcough12yearsagocoughcough... and i have to say that i believe that Cate is an excellent choice... yes, she IS supposed to be beautiful - and I think Cate is... but, also - the first time i read the book, Galadriel frightened me a bit - i mean, she is a bit intense... i say it's probably one of the casting decisions i totally agree with...
then again, to each his own...

A lot of you seem to thnk that this is a picture of Cate as Galadriel, but it's not. When Cate is all done up as Galadriel she looks absolutely perfect. Couldn't imagine anyone else playing Galadriel. Cate did a Really Great Job

oh my gosh! Jessica Biel!did they think of casting her!? i never heard anything about that. are you serious? yuck! would they actually even consider that freak? maybe she's okay in some stuff but never ever ever ever ever ever ever galadriel! and whoever thinks Cate Blanchette is hot or pretty, i don't get it. of course i'm a girl but i still think i can see that there could never be anything in her hot or sexy. It's the best pic i've seen of her though. she actually doesn't look ugly.

oh, Nargothrond said they thought it should've been Jessica Biel. still that's insane. man if anyone that worked on LOTR actually thought of casting her for any role in it i would have just died!

she is perfect for galadriel PERFECT
she looked wonderful in the movie
shes a great actress. her voice has this noble-ness in it. jessica biel totally does NOT fit into the role. the person who said so has problems.

She played good in the movie, but Galadriel was supposed to be the most beatiful woman ever, and Arwen is ten times beautifeller then Galadriel, that can't be right

Dunno why; just something about her scares me. She played the part greay, but she just scares me...

She is okay when she abandons her wig and stuff and remains Cate, but she sorta freaks me out acting as Galadriel

I think she's OK.
There is no point in arguing about her beauty - is there an actress who would look as beautiful as elf ?
I think she's MUCH better choice than Liv - at least Cate is a great actress and she really has beautiful voice.

I think that all of you who ram on about how her ears should be pointed or how her hair should look different or something - you are absolutely rediculous! What do you think MAKE UP is for?
Cate is a great actress, who is worthy of Galadrel. That os saying a lot.
