  1. It's too well drawn! If that's even possible. Ok, I am going to believe that you drew this...even though it's very hard to. AMAZING. Again, IT LOOKS LIKE A PICTURE!

I do quite a bit of computer stuff myself, and I kno what you can do. I only wish that I could rate this l8er after I check it to make sure. I'm sure you wouldn't mind if I just told you my rating after, would you? I mean no offence, but you hafta be careful nowadays.

  29. Yes, I can understand you, and thank you for being honest, you didn't offend me. My problem is that I know that this is my drawing, but I can't really prove it, just If I could show it to you, but how? The only thing I can say that my scanner made all of my drawings darker than they are, and I always do them after a photo. That's all I can say.
    Bye!

  33. After reading some comments - I looked for exactly this composition in the movie - couldn't find one frame that matched and I went thru the scene frame by frame. The artist had to draw the three elements together - Gandalf, the tongs and the ring the way they looked in the movie - but there is no frame that has the same composition. The artist drew her own composition - and a very nice one at that.

  84. The last 2 comments were deleted as they were criticisms regarding the artist doing a portrait of Ian McKellan. It is entirely up to the artist whether they wish to do to a portrait of an actor or something else entirely and has nothing to do with the quality of the piece. Each piece should be judged on its own merits. Whether you are tired of seeing actors in the roles of your beloved characters or not is not a licence to criticise.

    Comment by LadyCoralie - December 10, 2003 @ 9:45 AM

  85. I am not criticizing this piece because it is a portrait of an actor, but because it is an exact replica of reality that leaves no room for subjective interpretation as any good work of art, displaying at least some measure of independent creative input on the part of the artist, should. This is my opinion, it is not beligerent or unwarranted, and it is directed chiefly at the artistic quality of the piece and not its subject.

I don't think it is a bad piece...In fact it is technically superb. But I would like it more if it did not depict literal reality with such rigour.

    Comment by NoetherianRingBearer - December 10, 2003 @ 10:34 PM - Rated a 4

  86. I looked frame by frame for this exact composition in the movie - there is none. The artist had to combine the elements in her OWN composition - ie she did display some measure of independent creative input - quite a bit in fact. While creating a very realistic drawing, it was very subjectively and artistically done. If this is an exact replica then please post the exact source you think she copied from .

  87. You should look at the visual companion, Ladykris. Page 4.

Anyway, I think that the difference between a 4 and a 5 rating is the little touch of magic that some drawings have... And it is very hard to find it in a picture that I know by heart before I even see it.

    Comment by mithril - December 22, 2003 @ 10:43 PM - Rated a 5

  100. On its own, it is a nice piece of work. However, I am troubled by how many people are drawing the actors, rather than their own personal image of what the characters look like. By drawing the actor, the artist limits himself / herself. My first impression of the artwork is that the artist took a mental snapshot and simply drew that snapshot, however masterfully.

And to the moderators, please stop deleting my posts. These are not malicious and they contain no ill-will. In the words of Gandalf, "I'm not trying to rob you! I'm trying to help you." (smiles) Read my review of the "Elberth Starkindler" artwork and then judge me.

There will be no criticism allowed regarding the choice of an artist's subject. The argument that this is a picture of an actor is not a valid one to give a low rating. Your post has not been deleted, but I have edited the rating....LadyCoralie

  116. The best picture of Gandalf. Wow.

    Gyönyörűen rajzolsz, csak irigyelni tudlak.

  117. This has got to be my favorite pic of Gandalf in the whole gallery! It's increadible. I'm in awe, I never could never express all the feelings that I get when I look at this picture. The shadows and contrast are perfect. I am speechless. But they say a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well then, I'd say that your pic sums up all that I can say about it! And I will say it again...this picture is increadible! Keep drawing!!
    God Bless!!

  132. Painfully, I have officially abandoned Tolkien Online, due to matters which are best left unsaid.

For those of you who enjoyed my writing, I beg your forgiveness and understanding. Writing fanfictions holds no pleasure for me anymore. I have not, however, given up the arts, as at the current time in my life they seem to be the only hope I have of a future. Thanks to my good friend, I have come to discover www.deviantart.com, and through it, a new obsession and passion for art in almost every form. Coming particularly to the for are photography and photomanipulations. I still write poetry and stories, however, which I will begin to submit with increasing regularity. I do hope that if any of you should be in need of contacting me, you will come and find me at dragonstella.deviantart.com OR email me at stella_wisha@yahoo.com (although you may wish to be sure to put in a subject such as "from a tolkienonliner" as I get a lot of spam)

Several months back, I left Tolkien Online out of frustration and anger. Now I once again say goodbye, and it is only that: goodbye. The same kind of goodbye one says to fourth grade when moving up to fifth, or to being 14 when turning 15.

    Cordially, and forever, yours.
