Don't like it...it's like a comic. The drawing is good, but it looks horrible. Sorry.

Sorry guys, but this one's really bad. Gollum is not an alien fly. I agree with Tinuviel_Tiuri and Gringitta_Blonde. Very weird.

I like it. Sure it's not a traditional gollum but why keep doing the same thing over and over and over? We need some new drawings in here where people imagine themselves. I find this gollum a little alienistic yes, but I think that the original concept in it alone is enough to give it a 5.

I thought that Bilbo was supossed to have a green cloak that he got from the dwarvs. good artistic creativity, detail is good, a little comic/ mostly cartoon, but not kid like. I think that this captures the adults hearts more so than the kids, so that a good thing. i like it, evern though it is kinda wierd. I have mixed feelings

I never give zeros, because I myself could never hope to draw a picture even to this standard, and I think the artist deserves credit for putting time and effort into any work, no matter how elementary. This is their point of view and it is interesting to see how others interpreted the book. That's the great thing about Tolkien, we all see his works differently, although it sparks many arguments, it's all in good fun. I bet next to no one sees it as J.R.R. did, and I often wonder if he wanted that or not. All in all, it is an okay drawing, not exactly my style, but like I said, it is much better than I could ever hope to do.

the red cloak looks like Bilbo barrowed it fromLittle red ridding hood and i agree with the others that Gollum looks like a gigantic fly.

I think this lacks detail and the characters are not justified.

I'm sorry too but your interpretation is a bit wierd.

It is nice and unique, but the scenery is too bright, and Bilbo looks like one of Snow White's dwarves who borrowed the cape from Red Riding Hood. Gollum also looks too much like and insect.

TOO LIGHT FOR GOLLUMS CAVE! sorry, i know its probly very hard to draw something in the dark, but its just the way i imagined that scene. agree w/ nerdanel. gollum doesnt appear to me as some kind of mutant alien fly..and...er...his chest is, well...nm. red is not a traditional, natural colour such as the greens or browns, so it dont quite fit......all i can say is odd. very odd.

what a "traditional" Gollum looks like? What New Line made up, maybe? This is good, especially Gollum. In fact, this Gollum is closer to what I had in my head than all those "traditional" Gollum's that you see so often. Now, Bilbo, on the other hamd...
But all in all, I like it, it is very creative, and the colors are wonderful. And it's not like your recieving this from the most art-ignorant person in the world, I drew a lot, and well before I got into writing. And I give this a four.

Hey, it's just the artist's interpretation. I can't draw like this to save my life - so I commend anyone who can and then have it posted - unfortunately to have it slashed by many viewers. I think it's good enough for a four, at least. (Agreeing with Me-elf, in other words...)

I did actually point out that the pic. is SUPPOSED to be 'child-orientated'. Bilbo is MEANT to look 'cute and cuddly' as opposed to Gollum, who is drawn as the book discribes him. Strong but sinewy, thin faced with huge lamp like eyes. Sure, it's only my impression, but look at Gollum in the Rankin Bass cartoon. He looks like lizard. Who, except Tolkien, can say what Gollum looks like? Bilbos sword, by the way, is described in the book as being 'no more than a knife for men', so yes, it's short. It's actually P.J who said it's 22" long, not JRRT.
True, Bilbo's cloak should be green, but hey, it's a bit of 'Artistic license'.
As several of you have said, I too would LOVE to see your own drawings and paintings.
Opinions don't worry me. I've been teaching art for 23 years and I've illustrated many books. I'm happy.

Tolkien did give us something of an idea of what Gollum looked like, remember? It was something like a hobbit-not-as several of the above commentors have said before me-a mutated alien housefly!!! And I don't think even the infamous One Ring could mutilate something like a hobbit into-into-that!!! And child oriented! Daggone! I think my child would deserve something better then that thing! BILBO LOOKS LIKE ONE OF SNOW WHITE'S SEVEN DWARVES!!! I will give you an A -no wait- a B for effort, but that's all!!!!!

Giving a three because it's better than what I could do. For those of you questioning it, Tolkien did leave sketches and stuff that other artists have built Gollum from, he was not created by New Line, though there's is the most consistent with what I've seen, looking both Hobbit-like as well as alien (not as in out of this world, but different to everyone else.) The best Gollum I've seen on this site is the picture sitting at number one in this area (inspired by books.)
