Great castle and building.....but Gandalf look a little bit odd on this one to me.
I usually don't like Ted Nasmith's paintings but this one's rather nice actually...except from Gandalf and Skuggfaxe (sorry, but I couldn't remember his english name, but I mean the horse of course...)

Wish I could paint like that...... the horses name is Shadowfax isn't it?

this painting is amazing!! of course, it's not quite what i imagined minas tirith to be, but hey, nasmith is entitled to his opinion!! it's wonderful nonetheless!!

I have Ted Nasmith's Tolkien calendar for 2002 and the one that is my favourite is the one of Caras Galadon with the talans and lights and everything. It's a beautiful picture.

I have that calender and I agree about that particular painting.
I have this image on one of my LOTR collector plates. I always liked this one. I think Shadowfax and Gandalf look fine. It's pretty much as I imagined it.

Best Minas Tirith picture I've ever seen, period.
But if only one day I too could be cool enough to be first to comment on a picture and triumphantly write "FIRST!" My life would somehow be complete.

I like it. It's beautiful and clear. I agree that Gandalf, Pippin, and Shadowfax look a little werid, and I can barely see Pippin. Minas Tirith looks like a stairway or shelf with model buildings in this picture.

when i first saw this (it's the cover of an edition of rotk), i couldn't believe my eyes---that i imagined the white city correctly!
the desciption must have been well-done by ol' jrr.

I always liked Ted Nasmith, but I think his archetecture is better than his people.

this is a picture truly worthy of the lord of the rings. i really like how he paints landscapes so vividly. he can't really paint people though. it looks like he just whipped those in there to finish it off. i would like him to paint a picture of Isengard.

Have you been counting down the days, too? I pre-ordered it and I have the # of days left written on my calendar.
Dunedain_Ranger, I agree, it was so sad when Boromir died. I cried when Aragorn and Legolas sang a farewell song to Boromir in The Departure of Boromir. It was so beautiful!

it seems like he's good at depicting far away detail. The farther away you get from the...uh...camera(??), the better it looks.
ONLY 19 DAYS I CANT WAIT AAAAAAAAA

I think we are all pretty much unanimous here in saying that this is, hands down, the best pic or drawing of MInas Tirith yet (though not neccessarily of Gandalf)! Am I mistaken, or does the date by Nasmith's signature say '1966??'

I love the way how Ted Nasmith painted Minas Tirith. It is so beautiful! But I don't like the way how he painted Gandalf and Shadowfax. I thought that Gandalf should be grey not purple!

This painting is *** good. Ted Nasmith's my favorite Tolkien artist on this website... I think. There was another artist (can't remember his name, and I'm too lazy to bother searching the site to find out - ha ha) that painted several awesome paintings, but he's not very common. There's only a few paintings of his on this website, it seems.
Anyway this is way better. The painting of Minas Tirith made me felt so small. It'd be amazing if there's actually a castle on this planet THAT size!! If there is, I'd love to go there! Wish I could melt into 'The Return of the King' and visit that place (of course, during peaceful times).

I have stared at this piece for the longest time and I can not come up with a line of words to say how it grabs me. It all sounds so cliche so I'll just give it a five and let it go at that.

I really think the mountians look beautiful! The city itself isn't exactly the way I pictured it but it is probably more accurate to Tolkien's idea than the depiction in my head anyway. I do, however, agree that there isn't something quite right about Gandalf: he looks a little strange. I gave it the best rating anyway because it is a very well done picture.

The question on everybodys minds is Gandalf and Shadowfax dont look right. the anwser is Shadowfax is supposed to be black and even though Gandlaf is to bright (thats the reason) thats the way hes supposed to be. Shining as bright as the sun itself but as white as the winter snow.

I like the mountains they look just as imagined. And the tower also, i love it! But minas tirith looks more realistic than gandalf on shadowfax. he looks quite....hmmm....strange, and shadowfax is not white. well maybe it's standing in a shadow???

Shadowfax is definately white. It says in The Return of the King how he rode away on Shadowfax and the horse ran so fast it was like silver streaking across the valley. Beautiful image. Sorry, Aragorn803, Shadowfax isn't black.

Ted Nasmith is one of the guys who's made this site right?I don't like that Gandalf's wearing something so short,a man at his age shouldn't wear miniskirts!

but gandalf looks a bit strange, people isn't what Nasmith is best at. I like minas tirith to, and if this pic is a bit inacurate I don't realy care cuz it still looks lovely.

This painting is so beautiful! I cant explain how good it is. I love this painting here because, it reminds me of one of the states I have been too. But, I dont remember which one it was. Besides that I think that this picture is wonderful. Even Gandalf when he is riding to Minas Tirith. Well that is enough of the talking. It is now time for me to grade this.
Hmm! Now this paintings coloring is wonderful, the hue is great, the size is perfect, the shadowing is excellent, and the atmosphere is nice. So for this painting I will definately give it a 5. Great job in this wonderful painting. It just takes my breathe away.
I have a webpage that I am making. It has a lot of the Lord of the Rings pictures on it plus other pictures that I got over the web on different websites. So if you would like to check it out. That is after I finish it then you can. But, right now I am still working on it. You can e-mail me at http://kcamericanangel1@yahoo.com. Thank you! So please e-mail me if you would like to. I would really appreciate it. And I would also appreciate it if you would be willing to give me some sites that have nice picture or anything dealing with drawings, letters, or anything like that. I would greatly like that. Thank you very much once again.

Oh...my...goodness...I love it! Its beautimus! *swoons* Isn't that the illustration on the front cover of The Return of the King? Yes...why, yes, it is...
A five for this one!
That is a REALLY REALLY good pic!! And Shadowfax is white(or silver, whatever). Now can we grow up and stop arguing?!? Anyway... I'd give this pic a ten if I could but I guess I just have to settle with a 5!
What can I say, I'm simply awestruck by the dazzling beauty and spectacular scenery! Minas Tirith is perfect in every way, and the bright-blue waterfalls add a nice touch to the scene!
Gosh, I wish I could paint like this! Spectacular!!!
best nasmith painting ive seen
