THis is a really good picture at the most part. THe sky and the trees are wonderfull, and I love the movement. I am not to fond of the wolfriders though. THere is something wrong with them. THe ones that are further of are really good, but the biggest one, the foucus one, well, I don't like the way it looks, the snout is disturbing. And the wargs don't look much like wolves. I realize that this painting is at night so it has to be fairly dark, but my eyes were drawn toward the bright moon and bright plains in the distance, and I was so busy trying to make out the distant wolfriders that I honestly didn't see the rider in the foreground for a few moments! The foregroud rider is very dark and blends into the background too much -- the rider would stand out much better if it had the same light highilghts as the trees right next to it. And some of the other riders are very hard to make out -- that is, what is the rider, what is the wolf, what are their shapes?
Still, you have some great effects in the sky and the grass, and I liked the monochoromatic blue look. It does have a certain creepiness about it...

Hey, I'm not the artist here, but the dark and shadowy Wargs- you're so busy trying to make out the wolves in the background that you miss the one in front until it sneaks up on you. The effect was perhaps a little overdone, but the surprise of finding that Warg right in your face adds to the eerieness and evilness to the work. The focus on the full moon and its light across the fields, which has always been linked with wolves in myth, helps with that surprise.
Or so says the Warg with the "impressive" arts education of a half semster of high school sculpture.

Some of the stuff mentioned I will try to address.
I painted this in 1999 I believe, so I couldn't be influenced by the movies, but in actuality, I have always considered the wolfriders and the wargriders to be very different. The wolves would have much smaller orcs on them.
As far as the darkness of the foremost wolfrider, as one person pointed out, he kinda sneaks up on you. This was definitely deliberate. When I paint illustrative stuff like this, I have a scene in my head, a story. I imagined someone watching this scene hiddfen in the trees, watching the nightmare scene of the orcs flying by, when a rider, much too close for comfort springs into his field of vision.
Thanks for the great compliments!

Now this is a unique painting indeed, it looks both creepy and pretty at the same time! The night sky with the glowing, full moon and the moonlit trees sprouted over the rolling hills, gives the picture the appearance of serene beauty. Yet, the creepy-looking orcs riding the wargs at lightening speed is very eerie! The orcs' eyes are glowing like the wargs' penetrating eyes, and the orcs almost have a "warg-like" quality to their pointed faces. I like the way the artist has scattered the orcs over the rolling hills and has them traveling super fast, it's a very neat visual effect! Excellent job!!!

The subject doesn't need to be 'creepy' to understand that evil moves undercover at speed.

I don't remember seeing anything as sedative as this. The different shades of blue create a smooth effect that is unforgetable. One word: Harmony.
