Christopher Lee speculates about his possible involvment in The Hobbit

Christopher Lee speaks at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech RepublicSome members affiliated with the Norwegian film magazine entiteld Rushprint were able to ask questions of actor Christopher Lee recently when he spoke at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Like any good reporters would, they brought a video camera along and have provided us with a clip of Mr. Lee's response to the question:"If you get the opportunity, would you like to return to Middle-earth?"
Lee points out that it would be impossible for his character, Saruman, to appear in the film adaptation of The Hobbit, simply because that character does not appear in the book. He does, however, acknowledge the fact that Saruman could make an appearance in the second "bridge film," as it would most likely deal with the White Council. He expressed a great interest in exploring the character's motives and choices that led to his desire to be "The Lord of the Rings," but also, sadly, informed us that he did not wish to travel back to New Zealand again. Says Lee:
"If they make this other film and I am still alive, which would be at least two years or more, it's too far. It's too far."
The most interesting thing he had to say, though, was that he would love to provide the voice for the dragon Smaug. Not only did he express this sentiment, but said:
"If they do The Hobbit, I will do the voice of the dragon, Smaug. I could do that in England, you see? I wouldn't have to go to New Zealand."
