Here's the official announcement from The Tolkien Society:
The 2008 Tolkien Society Seminar
'Freedom, Fate, and Choice in Middle-earth'
Saturday 28th June 2008,
Parkstead House, Whitelands College, Roehampton University, London.
This year's seminar venue is a grade 1 listed Georgian villa with views across Richmond Park. Although the seminar itself is a 9-5 event on the Saturday it is hoped to arrange additional events on the Friday evening and Sunday. Aside from Richmond park, the largest of London's Royal parks, Kew Gardens and Hampton Court palace are within visiting distance.
Registration
The cost of places at the seminar is 30.00 for Tolkien Society members or '34.00 for non-members. Places can be paid for on-line (see below) or by use of booking forms either through the website or available by post from Bookings 29 Tockley Road, Burnham, SL1 7DQ. Lunch and refreshments are included in the registration fee.
The closing date for registration is 7th June 2008, however, spaces are limited so to secure your place please book early.
Call for Papers
Papers have been recieved on 'Free Will' and 'The Children of Hurin' but more are always welcome. This year's theme, covers concepts such as 'Free Will and Doom', and writings ranging from 'The Silmarillion' and 'The Children of Hurin' to 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit'.
